In the Spotlight - Interview with Brandon Bardsley
What is your role at BTP?
Here at BTP my role is to be a sponge! I’m currently progressing in my apprenticeship to become a fully qualified CIAT Architectural Technician by completing a Construction course at Stockport College and also completing a POP Record for the CIAT. On a day to day basis I’d say my role varies from feasibility studies to attending site meetings and liaising with clients to progress on drawing packages for Planning and Building Regulation approval.
What drew you to BTP in the first place and how has it advanced your career?
I joined BTP as an Apprentice Architectural Technician a little under a year ago with no prior experience to the world of architecture other than what little I could grasp from Grand Designs. A year later and I’ve been given the opportunity to carry on studying to progress to becoming a qualified technician part-time whilst working to gain more practice experience. This has significantly boosted my confidence and made me realise what it takes to not only work full time but have responsibility for the jobs I work on.
What has been your favourite project at BTP?
My favourite project so far working here at BTP has been the Oaklands Extra Care Scheme in Fallowfield, where I have worked alongside Vicky Saunders and Manny Atkinson to progress the project through to its current stage, which is Planning.
What advice do you have for prospective candidates?
In short, do some research. If you’re just starting out like I am then make sure you know which path you want to take as there’s a lot more than you think and trying to decide quickly can be a bit daunting.
If you weren’t an Architectural Technologist, what would you do?
I have a passion for art and photography, so if I wasn’t beginning my career in Architecture I’d probably be following the path of a photographer.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
My guilty pleasures are ‘Keeping up with Kardashians’ and hanging out with the ‘Housewives of Cheshire.’ #RealityTVAddict.
