Project Description

Facade remediation and recladding of 8-storey tower block

BTP were lead architects and building regulations principal designers on a project to remediate an eight-storey mixed-use Higher Risk Building in Leeds. The scope of works involved replacing combustible elements in the external facase with non-combustible materials. This included replacing the external insulation render system, rainscreen panels, glazed spandrels and timber cladding etc.

BTP worked in partnership with IRS Construction on behalf of Greenhouse Ground Rents Ltd to engineer a design solution to satisfy the replacement design brief.

Greenhouse has a distinctive history. Originally a 1930s Leeds municipal building, it was reinvented in 2010 as one of the UK’s most awarded sustainable refurbishment projects, with wind turbines on the roof, solar PV, ground-source heat, and a central courtyard at its core.

Its 172 apartments are home to a vibrant community of residents, and maintaining the architectural identity of the original design, as well as the trust of the people who call it home, was central to how this programme was delivered.
