DIY SOS Veterans Village Highly Commended at RICS National Awards
Congratulations to DIY SOS Veterans Village project team on receiving a highly commended in the Regeneration Category at the RICS Awards 2016, The Grand Final in Liverpool last Friday.
BTP was part of the consultant team of volunteers who last year helped transform eight of the 25 empty houses on Canada Street into bespoke new homes for army veterans in addition to a facelift for the entire street.
This award recognises the combined efforts of the project team, which includes BBC's DIY SOS team, Manchester City Council, veterans charities Haig Housing Trust and Walking with the Wounded, BTP as Project Architects and key contractors, Kier, Wates, Arcus plus numerous generous volunteer contractors and suppliers.
Since the programme aired last October on BBC One it has received multiple broadcast awards (Winner: National and West of England, Royal Television Society Best Popular Factual and Features series) and building awards (Winner: UK Housing Awards - Outstanding Local Authority (MCC); Winner: Local Authority Building Awards NW (LABC) Best inclusive building; Winner: RICS NW Regeneration; Highly Commended: North West Regional Construction Awards - Integration and Collaborative Working category); RICS Grand Final Regeneration, Highly Commended.
The DIYSOS team are set to return to Canada Street in the autumn to refurbish a final empty house into a home for a veteran family to complete this already established veterans' community.
