BTP injects new life into former restaurant for Age UK Trafford
Work is underway to convert a former Urmston town centre restaurant into a modern new headquarters and state-of the-art community facility for Age UK Trafford.
As award-winning specialists in building design for older people, BTP was commissioned to lead the project, with FT Finley as main contractor and the first phase is due to be completed by May 2015.
Our design will provide a suite of new offices for Age UK Trafford’s staff and a day centre, including a memory loss centre; ‘silver surfers’ lounge dedicated to teaching and improving digital skills among older people; and a space for social activities.
The charity say the new building will allow it to continue its work with current clients and extend their outreach within the community.
Colin Savage, BTP Director, said the work will help ensure the future of an important town centre landmark. He said: “The work of Age UK Trafford has never been more paramount, as a firm we were honoured to be chosen to work on this exciting project.
“Given its location in the heart of the community it was always a great shame that this building remained empty for so long. Now, thanks to Age UK Trafford, it will be transformed into a wonderful new facility.
Work on the new facility, which will be named the Sharples Building after the woman whose legacy helped the charity buy it, is being carried out by FT Finley’s as the main contractor.
Anne Marie Jones, Age UK Trafford’s Chief Executive, said: “BTP has interpreted our vision of delivering a design that meets our needs and those of those we support and we can’t wait to see the finished building. This new centre will help us to extend and centralise the work and care we provide throughout Trafford.’
