BTP designed age-friendly housing opens in Withington
A fantastic new development for older people was unveiled on Friday 15thJanuary in Westbrook Walk, Withington. BTP was appointed by client Southway Housing to design a modern age-friendly development to replace old fashioned bungalows and houses on a landlocked site with no proper road access. The successful development, built by Wates Living, saw the demolition of 5 bungalows to create 14 new one-bedroom apartments, 3 refurbished and 1 new one-bedroom bungalows.
The site previously had no proper road access and resulted in it being a secluded, uninspiring place where residents didn’t feel safe. BTP’s design has incorporated a new private road providing direct access to the dwellings together with communal gardens and private parking. The cul-de-sac road arrangement creates a new space in which residents can enjoy with private rear gardens and natural surveillance.
Westbrook Walk, is Southway’s newest development of affordable flats and bungalows, built to address the growing demand for smaller homes in South Manchester as more residents wish to downsize and has the added benefit of freeing up larger homes for families.
