BTP attends Lord Mayor’s Reception in support of walking wounded veterans
BTP’s Lee Podmore was delighted to attend the Civic Reception held by the Lord Mayor on Saturday at Manchester Town Hall in support of six Walking with Wounded veterans embarking on a gruelling 1,000 mile charity trek around the UK.
As the team arrived at St Peter’s Square Cenotaph on Day 29 of their expedition, they were greeted by Lord Mayor of Manchester Coun Paul Murphy and Lord Lieutenant of Manchester Warren J Smith as well as members of the public and armed forces.
Prior to arriving at the Cenotaph, the team visited Canada Street where they were given a tour of the latest DIY SOS project currently on site, which will transform run-down terraces into homes fit for military veterans to live in. In addition to this one of the properties has been converted into an office for the charity, with a further two properties being knocked into one to be used as a training house. Walking with the Wounded has teamed up with Manchester City Council, BBC DIYSOS, Adactus Housing and fellow veteran charity, Haig Housing to deliver the village for army veterans, which is expected to be completed in September. BTP is proud to be part of the consultant team supporting the project.
The group are currently on a 72-day expedition to raise funds for Walking with the Wounded, a UK charity which funds the retraining and re-education of our wounded soldiers.
