Project Description

Transformation of site of former social club into 24 new affordable apartments

Leaders in the field of social housing design, BTP Architects were appointed to lead the £2.1 million Hayward Court development which was built by Seddon Construction and also includes 18 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom flats for affordable rental properties.

As the third scheme BTP have delivered in partnership with Southway Housing Trust over the last 2 years, the Hayward Court scheme follows in the success of an 18 apartment 'Talbot Court' and 12 apartment 'White Swan Court' schemes developed during 2015.

Key Features

Formerly a brownfield site with a high flood risk, the development design posed a number of challenges which needed to be overcome in order to deliver on time and to plan. This included special design elements incorporated to the brook at the rear of the site, to mitigate flooding.

The Hayward Court development was designed to improve the street scene, increases natural surveillance and heals broken elements of the local area, providing modern, state-of-the-art apartments which complement the previous two schemes, but with its own specific identity. Apartments were designed to a high specification with large windows for natural daylight to lounges and kitchens with Juliette balconies.
