Location
Moss Side, Manchester
Award winning flagship inner city development and winner of RICS NW Housing Award
We were challenged to design a contemporary and innovative mixed tenure housing scheme at a landmark site on one of the main routes into Manchester.
The 1.3 ha site is located just south of Manchester City Centre and forms a significant gateway into the University Campus and City Centre. It was viewed by the City Council to have an important role in the continuing regeneration of Moss Side. The cleared site, which had been vacant for 40 years, was ripe for development.
Greenheys comprises 64 highly sustainable houses/flats, which range from two-four bedrooms. The units were designed to integrate into the surrounding community by careful attention to the scale and respect for the existing urban environment. The outer corners of the site have received striking treatment to provide a landmark to the development.
The scheme is developed around two public squares with artwork integrated within the surrounding landscaping.
To give each dwelling its own identity, a bold colour palette was used which complimented the diverse surrounding community.
The scheme is the winner of the RICS North West Housing Award.
BTP listened to all stakeholders and delivered a service which met the brief fully. The project was resourced and they were always available to respond promptly to queries.
