Project Description

Delivery of supported accommodation for individuals with autism

We were appointed as architects on a full service contract to deliver specialist accommodation for individuals with autism delivered in partnership with Your Housing and the National Autistic Society. The project was to provide three dwellings with staff support tailored to the needs of individuals with autism.

Key Features

  • Establishing a clear Client Brief. This was particularly important as this development incorporates the specific needs of the various user groups.
  • Designing houses compliant with the requirements for all funding stakeholders, for example, HCA, Code for Sustainable Homes, EcoHomes, Lifetime Homes, Building for Life and also to meet the needs of the user group.
  • Identifying risks to the project, then innovating and mitigating risks. For example, staff safety, location of doors opening in rooms.
  • Establishing a pragmatic, sustainable, and solutions focused development which is easy for the tenants to live in and responds to the needs of residents with issues of self harm.
  • Delivering less carbon emissions and less waste.
  • Supporting the local authority to provide excellent services for persons with nursed care.
  • Providing low maintenance and low life cycle costs.
