Project Description

Design of respite care accommodation

We were commissioned as architects to design an eight-bed respite care facility within an existing building on a design and build contract. The development allows carers respite time and provides excellent accommodation for the residents.

Key Features

  • Establishing a clear Client Brief. This was particularly important as this development needed to incorporate the specific needs of the user groups.
  • Redesigning existing spaces compliant to meet the requirements for all funding stakeholders, for example, HCA, Code for Sustainable Homes, EcoHomes, Lifetime Homes, Building for Life and also to meet the needs of the user group.
  • Identifying risks to the project, then innovating and mitigating risks. For example, innovative window opening to meet building control, security and safety requirements.
  • Establishing a pragmatic, sustainable, and solutions focused development which is easy for the tenants to live in and responds to the needs of residents with issues of nursed care.
  • Providing less carbon emissions and waste.
  • Supporting the local authority to provide excellent services for persons with primary care needs.
  • Supplying low maintenance and low life cycle costs.
