In the spotlight: Interview with Farah Arar
What is your role at BTP?
I am mostly responsible for carrying out daily tasks to help the managing director (Vicky) get the projects delivered in good time and to a high standard.
In the past eight months, I helped cover a large range of projects including housing, conservation, master planning and surveying.
What drew you to BTP in the first place?
BTP is really focused on the client-architect relationship, which I think is a key driver in creating successful projects and sustaining the office. In addition, I was happy to be working in Revit which is advanced software that helps design in 3D rather than the traditional 2D method. Finally, after my interview, I felt welcomed by the directors and rest of the team and comfortable in my role. These advantages convinced me to work for BTP and it has proved to be a very rewarding experience.
What has been your favourite project at BTP?
Looking back, it seems that ‘The Grange’ master planning project in Blackpool was one of the most enjoyable projects to work on. I had the chance to participate in its initiation, got to meet the prospective design team, and helped design a concept masterplan for the site. The scale of the project is quite exciting and the potential it can have to improve the local area is great. Hopefully, it will move forward and develop further in the future.
If you weren’t an Architect, what would you do?
Probably a career in the music industry; maybe a music producer, singer, pianist of maybe all three! Just like architecture, there is a lot of room for creativity within music. It also helps me to relax and improves my mood.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I have a YouTube channel featuring song covers, mash-ups and some music videos! I started the channel in my second year of university and I am planning on developing it further with more content and music in the future.
