Project Description

Conversion of 24 bedsits into 16 flats for older people.

BTP Architects are specialists in housing designs for older people.  We were appointed by Symphony Housing to transform existing bed-sits at the 42-unit complex into spacious one room apartments tailored to the specific needs of older residents.  All the work was undertaken without having to move the residents from their existing homes, so as to reduce personal disruption.

BTP’s design for the new apartments incorporates ‘Happi’ principles that relate to the needs and aspirations of older people. Materials, colours and surfaces provide a dementia-friendly design maximising the safety and comfort of residents.

“The aim of this project was to improve the quality of life for older people in the complex by providing them with a spacious one bedroom flat, with an open plan kitchen and living room, together with the installation of large windows to enable a flow of space light and ventilation throughout the home.  Our design creates a healthy environment with communal and outdoor space to encourage social interaction,” commented Vicky Saunders, Director at BTP Architects.
