In the spotlight: interview with Andy (Kwok) Wan

What is your role at BTP?

I joined BTP as an architect and was pleased to be promoted to Associate shortly after. I am involved with many different projects in the office, from single storey extensions to residential, refurbishment to conservation sectors.  I also get involved with the day to day running of the company.

I am one of the certified PassivHaus designers for the company, so there's always something new to get involved in!

What drew you to BTP in the first place?

Having worked for a large practice in Manchester City, I wanted to work for a practice which offered me the ability to grow, learn new skills and work on a diverse range of projects. It’s also been great to work with a team who are so friendly too. Having a healthy work life balance is also a big plus for me!

What has been your favourite project so far at BTP?

I have been involved with many projects at BTP, from small extensions to tower recladding and restoration projects. I have enjoyed every project which I have worked on so it’s hard to pick a favourite.

If you weren’t an Architect, what would you do?

I’d probably be doing something related to computers or business, as I have always had a passion for new technology, and because I grew up helping my family businesses, which I really enjoyed whilst growing up. 

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

In my spare time I love to cook; I’m currently trying to perfect my bread recipe. I also enjoy bouldering and hiking around the country and abroad as it keeps me fit and it’s a great way to take a break away from the computer screen. I’m also pretty handy at DIY and enjoy renovating properties and doing up the garden in summer.
