BTP Architects joins DIY SOS Big Build Team in Newton Heath

BTP Architects are part of the consultant team transforming run down terraced housing in Newton Heath into homes fit for military veterans to live in.

The scheme forms one of the biggest DIY SOS Big Build schemes to date and is he result of a collaboration between Manchester City Council, BBC DIY SOS, Adactus Housing and veteran charities, Walking with the Wounded and Haigh Housing.  It involves refurbishing seven properties to form three homes, plus a Walking with the Wounded bases for the provision of advice, support and therapy. In addition, all 62 properties on the street will receive a face-lift together with street-scaping to provide disabled access and parking.

BTP has been closely involved with all aspects of the scheme including surveying the properties, providing expert guidance on accessibility design, submitting the planning application and ensuring that all building regulations are met relating to the complete refurbishment of the existing run-down terrace housing. The work will require the remodelling of existing houses to create larger properties tailored to the needs of wounded ex-servicemen.

The work is due to be undertaken in September and planned to be aired in October.
